Robert C. Austin Operations Centre

Halton Hills, Ontario

This project replaces an obsolete operations facility at the municipality's central works yard in Georgetown, Halton Hills. The program integrates administrative offices, meeting spaces, staff change rooms, and a communal lunchroom that opens onto an intensive green roof terrace. These components are paired with general stores, an eight-bay drive-through fleet maintenance garage, and a dedicated welding and machining workshop.

Conceived as a highly economical intervention, the building demonstrates how rigorous design principles can elevate a modest budget. One- and two-story volumes are organized into a single, clean rectilinear form. The envelope is wrapped in a combination of capless curtain wall and insulated metal sandwich panels, carefully detailed to eliminate standard trim elements and achieve a flush, monolithic skin.
