Canadian Chancery Abuja
Abuja, Nigeria
Sited within the diplomatic quarter of Nigeria’s capital, this 20,000-square-foot government office building sits within the civic master plan conceived by Kenzo Tange. The facility provides secure workspace for consular services, international development, trade and investment, and political and economic advisory missions. The compound comprises a secure perimeter setback, a sally port entrance, a guard house, and a primary administrative building.
The architectural concept negotiates a complex matrix of parameters, balancing stringent security protocols and long-term durability with indigenous building and craft traditions. Designed to respond to regional construction methodologies and material availability, the project balances highly specialized programmatic requirements with a highly efficient, cost-effective planning strategy.
