The Lawson Centre for Sustainability, located at the University of Toronto’s St. George Campus, embodies Trinity College’s values of collegial sustainable living. Conceived as a "living lab," the 155,000-square-foot facility embeds advanced ecological infrastructure directly into the daily pedagogical and residential experience of its occupants.

The mixed-use program comprises a 343-bed student residence and academic hub. Common spaces - including a full-service dining facility, a community kitchen lab, flexible breakout and study zones, and a fourth-floor event pavilion - weave seamlessly through the floor plates, encouraging cross-disciplinary interaction. Residence lounges are strategically positioned at the termination of each residential wing to foster localized communal assembly.

The building utilizes an exposed hybrid mass timber structure alongside steel and concrete cores. The project is engineered to achieve Toronto Green Standards Tier 4, LEED Platinum, and CaGBC Zero Carbon Building (ZCB) Design v3 certifications. High-performance technical systems include an ultra-insulated wall envelope, a 57-well geothermal heat-recovery loop, a rooftop photovoltaic array, and an integrated rainwater collection cistern. Food awareness and urban ecology are brought to the foreground via the George and Martha Butterfield Rooftop Farm, completing the facility's holistic lifecycle loop.
