New Canadian Chancery

Dhaka, Bangladesh

2003 - 2008

In association with MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects

This complex includes 30,000 square feet of offices for for Immigration, CIDA, Trade & Investment, and our Political & Economic Advisory, as well as an 8,000 square foot Official Residence. The central goals of the project was the creation of a sense of welcome and insulation, reinforcing a spirit of collegiality among embassy staff while providing an inviting gateway to Canada for visitors and potential new Canadians. Security systems have been planned and detailed so as not to inhibit transparency, hospitality and engagement. The building forms and construction are responsive to regional vernacular traditions, the tropical climate, and local technical capabilities, while conforming to Canadian technical standards and signaling a distinctly Canadian cultural presence.
