This building, built in phases over a ten year period, is on the south side of Wellington Street and involved extensive negotiations with the NCC and the Ottawa Planning Department as it was a part of the Sparks Street Mall development. It is an example of our ability to work successfully with authorities in Ottawa and in collaborating with a design associate, (Arthur Erickson), to meet the planning objectives of the Capital Hill Area and to meet budget and time requirements. The project was on budget and schedule. The building has extensive public areas - a numismatic museum and a public indoor garden - and at the same time it contains secure offices and the highly secure Treasury of Canada. It contains a large interior trucking area and limited underground car parking. We have been the Bank's principal Ontario Architects since 1936 when we designed the original Bank of Canada and continue to work with them in modifying and maintaining this significant structure. Of particular relevance is the integration of our 1936 original building into the much larger headquarters required forty years later.
