project description:

Brock University, St Catherines Rounthwaite, Dick & Hadley Architects in association with Brian MacKay-Lyons Architect Ltd. are currently in the design stage for the development of two new prominent buildings on the Brock University Campus. The 41,000 sq.ft. Bookstore Building will include a new 13,000 sq.ft. fully fit-out Campus Store on the ground level with two 14,000 sq.ft. stories of academic offices and teaching spaces above. The building will be connected to the existing Student Services Building on all three levels and will act as a gateway building for pedestrian traffic arriving by both automobile and mass transit. The second, 28,000 sq.ft. building, will be located on a site adjacent to the Campus Store Building and will house the new Lifespan Development Research Centre (LDRC). Departments will include the Brock Research Institute for Youth Studies (BRIYS), Social-Personality Group, Hormone and Brain Development Research, Infancy Research, and Neuropsychology/Psychophysiology Labs. The new building will be connected to existing faculty office and teaching facilities in the Mackenzie Chown Complex and will have a designated entrance for the general public who will be involved in the research activities. The buildings are being designed in tandem and will be undertaken as a single construction contract. The two buildings are also envisioned to become key elements in the development and expansion of the South Campus and will act as gateway buildings for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
