Ryerson University & George Brown Toronto City College In August of 2000, Rounthwaite, Dick & Hadley, in association with Lett/Smith Architects, were commissioned to design a 2-storey 77,000 sq. ft. addition on top of an existing 4-storey building. The addition now houses 5 faculties jointly operated between George Brown and Ryerson, the first fully integrated facility of its kind in Ontario. The project includes 7 state of the art electronic classrooms, a computer lab, and a video conferencing classroom. The Academic Resource space is fully interconnected with the main Ryerson Library, acting as a satellite resource facility. The space is fully wired to allow access to both Ryerson and George Brown intranets. Due to the nature of the existing facilities, the building remained operational throughout construction. As a result of our highly consultative process, very little disruption to the existing areas occurred, despite the entire replacement of mechanical and fire alarm systems throughout the building. The tender was $.7 Million under the construction budget and the total extras came to less than 6% of the construction budget.
