Guelph Civic Centre Pavilion. Guelph, Ontario. Under Construction. RDH Architects are acting as design subconsultant to Janet Rosenberg & Associates Landscape Architects and Urban Designers who are responsible for the overall design of the new Market Square redevelopment in the heart of historic downtown Guelph. The square sits in front of the newly redesigned City Hall building with a centrally located reflecting pool / splash pad and ice rink. The Pavilion is a small structure designed to accommodate change and rest for a skating rink in the winter season and a splash pad in the summer months. It also houses an ice resurfacing machine, mechanical spaces, a water collection cistern, refrigeration and water filtration systems for the ice rink / splash pad, and an accessible washroom/change room, public lockers and donor recognition wall. The pavilion uses perspective to its advantage to facilitate a dynamic eastern edge counterpoint to the mass of the city hall building. The luminosity of the new glazed pavilion will help to further accentuate its position on the site and in the city, a glowing and pulsating orb drawing visitors to the site and the building itself.
