Chongqing, China RDH was asked to submit a competition proposal for the design of a new Opera House and Art Gallery for the city of Chongqing, China. The proposal called for both program elements to exist on a major urban site in the center of downtown Chongqing. Our scheme separates the civic programs into two distinct buildings situated at the East and West corners of the site connected by a linear block of north facing office/studio space. The blocks of program at the North, East and West edges of the site create a frame for a south facing, terraced plaza and green bridge connected to an adjacent block of park space.
