This project was completed in two phases in a ten year period. The first was built under project management and the second under a phased contract. Metropolitan Centre accommodates the Canadian Headquarters of Metropolitan Life as well as private tenants such as Foreign Embassies. The building contains a 3-storey Atrium connecting the two 17-storey towers, a very large 4-storey underground Parking Facility, indoor Truck Bays, extensive conference facilities, open and closed offices, (many of the latter sound attenuated). Various levels of security are incorporated in various parts of the building and in particular for the Embassy tenants. A feature of the building is its energy conservation systems. It is one of the most miserly users of energy in Ottawa. Indeed, its heat recovery system is so efficient that its boilers seldom fire up, even on the coldest of Ottawa days. RDH was responsible for interior design and fit-up of the Met Life facilities and a majority of the leased space including Ground Floor Retail. Over the years we have been responsible for a series of upgrades and fit-ups within the Complex as well as the design and planning for a proposed 5 building suburban Ottawa campus also for Met Life.
