The original building was constructed in 1954. Rounthwaite, Dick & Hadley designed an addition of equal size which was constructed in the 1970's, and the complete retrofit of the original building in 1985. We were responsible for all of the renovations, retrofits, and tenant fit-ups to the original (1954) building and the 1970's addition. The completed work included replacement of mechanical systems, new fitness centre, reconstruction of main entrance, executive suite, computer room, replacement of ceilings and lighting, and (in the 1954 areas) asbestos removal. All interior design including furniture acquisition and layout. The work required meticulous planning and sequencing of all activities to minimize interference with ongoing uses and to co-ordinate occupant moves. The firm was also responsible for construction management of the renovations including scheduling and co-ordination of all trades as well as all architecture and engineering including interior design, construction documents, field review, and contract administration. Our most recent work on the building includes removal of asbestos in 1971 areas and removal of connecting bridge over Church Street including investigation, preparation of program and budget, and scheduling. We have also prepared studies on the parking structure and retrofit options related to Crown Life's relocation to Regina and sale of the building.
