project description:

North Wentworth Twin Pad Arena The North Wentworth Twin Pad Arena is a 8,500 SM building located in Flamborough, Ontario. Designed in association with David Premi Architects of Hamilton, the new facility will replace an existing single pad arena and community hall, which will be demolished upon completion. The facility houses two full sized hockey rinks with elevated seating for nearly 900 people, with capability for year-round ice on one pad. Central to the design is the integration of warm viewing areas on both levels with the rinks providing a unique viewing experience. The Arena features 12 change rooms, 4 referee rooms, 60 person Multi Purpose Room, 2 meeting rooms, a pro-shop, a concessions area, administrative offices and a large central atrium. The Arena is targeted for LEED Silver accreditation and has been designed to be 40% more energy efficient than the national energy model for typical arenas. Green strategies include geothermal heating and cooling, daylighting and natural ventilation, heat recovery on all air handling units and the utilization of waste heat to warm change rooms, spectator seating and ice melting pit.
