Toronto, Ontario RDH provided architectural consulting services for a major addition and renovation to an aging twin pad arena, outdoor pool, and community centre. We were selected from an original list of 36 architectural firms. Work included a new double gymnasium, community room, preschool room, outdoor lap and leisure pool with zero beach and water play area, and alterations and addition to the existing twin pad enclosure including new change rooms, new dasher boards, and new seating. The current program was not fixed at award of Consultants Contract. RDH staff participated in a total of 9 community meetings including the Aquatics Committee, the Hockey Committee, and the Clubs Committee representing the Lions Club, Eastern Star, Alcoholics Anonymous, West Hill Community Services, and Irish dancers. When a schematic design was established that accommodated all user groups the Consultant Team worked with our Cost Consultant to measure the proposed design against the existing budget. Program modifications were incorporated at an early stage. The new Heron Park has exceeded all expectations with regards to user ship and has become a vital and well loved community asset to the West Hill neighborhood.
