Mississauga, Ontario Rounthwaite, Dick & Hadley in association with Shoalts & Zaback Architects are provided consultant services for a major addition and renovation to an existing Arena & Community Centre. Work includes a new double gymnasium and change rooms, administration offices, a new two storey glazed lobby and gathering space, the relocation of a City of Mississauga Library branch from a nearby mall, and general renovations and upgrades to the existing facility including arena multi-purpose rooms and serveries. Arena upgrades include new public washrooms, a new main entrance with warm viewing, crush space, ticket booth and snack bar and the installation of a new sprinkler system. Exterior work included extensive pedestrian and jogging paths, a water play area, basketball court and a soccer pitch. Staff have been involved in approximately a dozen user group meetings including senior citizen organizations, hockey and figure skating clubs, ratepayers, childcare workers, and police and library board members. Design features include natural materials, extensive daylighting, and an interior street.
